Adjustable Beds – adjustable beds are an important resource for people with movement disabilities. The bed can be raised, or lowered to allow for ease when getting into or out of the bed. Also having the ends of the beds being able to move adds to this because the person will not need to use any energy in sitting up as the bed is able to move the person into a sitting position. It also adds for comfort whilst sleeping as the perfect height levels can be achieved.
Here are just some of the features that adjustable beds offer:

Bed Harness – much like a bath harness, the bed harness makes getting into and out of bed simple for disabled people who do not have use of their legs. There are two types of harness… the electric and the pulley system. Electric harnesses are simpler to use but cost more and tend to take up more space in the bedroom. They consist of a motor and pulley that the person ‘climbs’ into then uses a remote to lift them out of bed and over to an awaiting chair. The pulley harness involves a little more upper body strength as the person is able to move it themselves into position in order to get to a wheelchair, or into bed.
Bed Rails – bed rails are an important factor, especially for disabled children as they allow for more easier access, having something to oneself up with., but they also act as a barrier in case the occupant of the bed roll over and looks set to fall out. They are usually adjustable for height, and can be completely lowered so that the person can get out of bed without having to clamber over the bar.
Dri-tech bedding - A range of waterproof, fully hygienic and easy to care for mattress covers, duvet covers, pillow cases and draw sheets which have been developed to withstand use in Hospitals, Nursing and Residential Homes are available for those certain ‘accidents’ that are likely to occur with disabled people that are not able to physically get up during the night and get to the toilet. This bedding also comes with an extremely highly flame retardant coating in case of fire, the bed occupier would be able to wrap themselves in bedding until help arrived.
